I got an idea from my cousin I wanted to share. She has a journal with a photo of each special ornament on her tree, and then wrote the 'story' of it. who gave it, where it came from, why it is special, etc...
I have so many ornaments with a story behind them, I plan on photographing them as I take them down this year and starting my journal. This could be passed down to my kids so they can remember as well.
Thought I would share this idea on here!
No! I'm not listening. I'll end up photographing all of them, being a little obsessive at documenting. ;-) Scanning in all the family photo albums from the last 30 years is already a huge task.
Actually, this is a cool idea if you can start early, like with a new family. I agree with @grammyn that many of the stories and timing can be mixed up/forgotten with something like 30-40 years of ornaments.
If you make a really solid and complete book, you could make a tradition after decorating the tree each year to have young kids pick an ornament, look it up, and read about it. Like story time.
Now, where do I start with all those ornaments. ;-)
@jeancarl I've been married for 18 years, but was showing my Aunt my tree on Christmas Eve, and realized that I was telling her a story about almost every ornament :-)
That's when she told me about my cousin's book... I am going to write things down while I remember!!!!!
This is a great idea! We started gifting each of our kids a new ornament each year when they were babies. My idea was that when they are grown and leave the nest, they will have a nice collection of ornaments to take with them for their first tree. As the collections have grown, I have taken to writing up a list year so we could remember exactly who had the baseball which year, etc. I love the idea of photographing and sharing about each one in a book - this will give me a new project in the new year since my 365 ends on the 31st! Thanks for sharing!
