am starting this discussion because I am not finding the answers I am seeking using the search option. This post is a comment, looking for help. NOT a COMPLAINT. This is a free site & I realize that, but there is a option to to pay as well and I will still have these issues.
I recently started my 365 project and I am having so much fun and learning alot about myself, very rewarding project.
I am taking pictures everyday, with my Android cell & Sony camera. I am traveling with work and don't always have access to a desktop computer, so I started this project using my cell to take, upload, and chat with my new friends about mine and their pictures they have uploaded as well. This was working FINE until 10 days ago, but not now. I have not changed a SINGLE email setting & I am using gmail, same account as when I registered here. So I am fairly certain the issue is not on my end. While on my android phone, I have to scroll to the bottom and use the FULL SITE to comment to a picture.
1. I have emailed myself as usual the daily picture I take from my cell, but it WILL NOT show up here, no matter how many times I email it. I tried again this morning and it did show up, the first time in approx 10 days. I am sharing with 365 project with my family and friends daily easily on FB. which is how I started and will continue.
2. Last night I uploaded a few pictures to try and get caught up while I had access to a desktop. I uploaded fine. The issue is the email notification when a friend comments on my pictures. 75% of the time the email notification DOES NOT say what picture a friend is responding to, so I have to look thru all my pictures until I can figure out what one they are commenting on. This is taking any fun out of replying back to comments as it is too time consuming. I want to contribute as other are helping me on my project.
I can only speak for myself, but a simple "like" button on a comment someone has made on my pictures would probably let them know I am seeing their comment and also give THEM the ability to "like" a picture while breezing them their friends pictures. Going thru all the replies to find their reply back seems time consuming?
3. I read thru the forum alot to learn from others members, there is so much information to be learned, great group of people sharing here. I own 2 forums and know a small amount about how forum software works.
Is there moderators here and what are they able to do here please? I can only imaging trying to run a forum this large alone, not for me.
The only way to communicate is by reply on a photo, if there was the option to communicate with a PM or IM it may help? Most forum software has the ability to PM or email a member WITHOUT knowing their email address, so nothing is compromised. I have read the posts on this and it seems most members are ok with it or? INPUT PLEASE?
I would love to become a ACE member, but will still have these issues. Maybe offering some more user options to paying members would help with ACE membership.
What are the Extra notifications with ACE membership please? I am paying for others sites as well, just want the best bang for my $, as each $20.00 adds up, lol.
Again, these are not complaints, but comments.
I am committed to my 365 photo project and will be continuing with my project. This is a great group and I truly enjoy the people here. I am only posting this to help make this website experience as enjoyable as possible and to bring to light a few small issues I feel could be addressed.
1) The email system seems to be working fine, i'm sorry you are having difficulty getitng your photos through, do you know how large the file sizes are, maybe that could be an issue, although i don't think it is limited 365 end.
2) Yes, notifications need improving, it is annoying that it doesn't show what photo / discussion it is in context to, I will address this soon. I think if you click on the email notification it will take you directly to the photo the person has commented on (ah i;ve just checked and it shows the photo they commented on, do you have images blocked in your email?), these haven't been changed in a while so there is definitely room for improvement.
3) Personal messaging is something people have mentioned in the past, forum moderators have the ability to email people from the site, this would need some adjustments before it could be used widely, I will have to think about how the best way to implement this would be, thanks for the feedback.
The additional notifications Ace Members get are if a user Fav's your photo, you can see that, a simple thing, but people had requested it.
