Not long ago, i decided to build my own sound trigger
I really do think anybody can do this as long as they are patient (takes a couple of hours to put together if your not use to this kind of stuff). Here is the website where I bought the kit: http://hiviz.com/kits/guide.htm It cost about $30 and made it possible to capture shots like this:
This also has a photogate (light trigger) which will be useful for water drops (coming soon to my 365 project :)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- EDIT: There is a simpler one that is ONLY a sound trigger and delay which looks like this: and here are the step-by-step instructions: http://hiviz.com/kits/instructions/sk2-du-manual2.htm
Take a look- I bet it is easier than you think (no soldering required)

BUT NOW I saw another DIY project for under $30 to build your own flash with an optical slave! How cool is that! There are warnings all over the place, however, that this is a dangerous project: "This kit involves High Voltage up to 300v which is stored in big capacitors even long after turning the unit off. THIS VOLTAGE CAN KILL YOU." Pretty amazing for a 4 "AA" battery power source. For some odd reason, this only makes me want it even more.
The man lives dangerously! I definitely like the idea of the sound trigger, but I have flashes so I will pass on the death-defying home-made flash. :-)
Wow, thanks for the link! I have been tossing the idea around for a while but never really found anything I could understand. I have a basic understanding but when I look at a schematic w/o some sort of real life photo, I get lost!
Well, am I ever impressed! Don't think I could pull off building a sound trigger - too technical for me. The photo had my head swimming. But your balloon image is AWESOME!! I wanted to achieve my balloon photo as the skin peeled away like yours - but no luck. It fascinates me to catch the image while the water is still suspended.
I fav'd your ornament photo when you first posted it, and still am impressed every time I see it.
Thanks for the inspiration!!
And if you scroll down to the very bottom, they have sound triggers for sale already assembled. Obviously it will cost you a few more greens and you don't get the joy of building it yourself, but they are available.
