I don't know if we have a suggestion box on this site, but I would love to suggest that when a photo makes it on the popular page, it not only notify the photographer in notifications but also perhaps allow it to be celebrated and complimented by adding an automatic icon next to the photo (Similar to the ACE icon we see for members). I mean, what could make a photographer more proud than having earned their first "Popular" and displaying it for all their friends? I just think it would be a great way to celebrate the fantastic photography and photographers on this site.
What do you think everyone? Do you agree, disagree, have another suggestion to add to mine?
I agree! It means something to make it to the pp and I know I've missed my minutes of fame. I'd like to know if a picutre was featured also, even if it was for a couple of minutes. :-)
@mikichelle@miraries Great minds think alike. I also love the idea of earning badges for reaching milestones. We could even aim for a badge for a specific kind of shot we are trying to obtain and submit the photo when we "succeed" at it. I know there are a lot of ways we can make this site an even bigger enjoyment than it is. I already spend a large portion of my time checking out other photographers, commenting and playing about with my stuff. I guess what I mean is..I want MORE MORE MORE, of a good thing. :)
@tkallen@positronicmommy@dmortega Exactly I was lucky enough to have someone mention they saw my photo there and that is how they found me. Still it would be way fun to come up with new ways to bond our community closer. We are all some incredibly fun people. We need some goals and stuff to make our site even better (and take up even more of my time..cause clearly I am not already addicted enough to checking out this site. throughout the day..One look at my following list and my favorite photo list should reveal me as a complete addict to this site, but hey give me MORE. lol)
That's great! I had 3 photos on the popular page the past week and a half and I'm new here...I was blown away, but I only found out because someone mentioned it. I never ever thought to go look for my own photos there. They should notify those who are on it as well, don't you think? I think there are so many people that deserve to be on that page...it does encourage the photographer to even try harder. When you get one photo up there, you just want to keep pressing on to do as well. It's like competing with yourself.

It would be nice to know you have been on the PP, most of the time someone will do a little cheer comment when it goes up which is lovely and does the job, maybe we all need to be aware to note when we comment on a pic seeing it on the PP.
I'm going to be the first (and probably only) to say that I don't think being on the PP gives your picture any merit. I have had (and so has my husband) two pictures uploaded on the same day and the least 'popular' out of the two (less fav's/views/comments) go up on the PP. Therefore I don't think the PP gives any merit to the photo other than a bit more 'publicity' being featured on that page.
Don't get me wrong, It is lovely to see a pic up there but I think (like someone else said) if merit was going to be given for pics it should be on statistics not what a random selector pics that day. Sorry if my grammars off I am nursing at Keyboard and she keeps bashing the keys!

I think placing any sort of icon to state a pic has made PP is rather pointless. No offense to anyone - I was happy the first handful of times my pics made it there too - but it's not that big of a deal. It really just comes down to comments vs. views; it's not really like someone has gone out of their way to select that photo and put it there for everyone to admire.
I am absolutely thrilled when a pic of mine ends up on the popular pages but personally I wouldn't really want an icon next to those pictures. To me this almost seems like an element of competition added to the project which can result in pressure to produce yet more amazing photos, while all I really want to do is keep a photo journal of my year.
If you're an "Ace" member, that's a permanent thing (at least for the year), but if your picture's on the Popular Page, it might only be there for a day or two...
I have only ever been on the Popular Page once, and that was in May last year... Would I still have an icon, even now? Do I deserve one?
I would love to get my photos fav'd by people as I think that shows more progress to me than the pp. Having said that i'm not getting favs but I have been getting some lovely comments so that is nice too. :)
