"My own" shots?

March 8th, 2011
Hi,

I am almost drained of my creative juices (I've only just posted my photo#118) & so I wanna go seriously try to take on some other genres: streets photog. I actually already took some & there's one I'm particularly reluctant on posting.

My question is, is it OK to post an entry if a big part of that photo is actually someone else's copyrighted print? Like tarpaulin prints, billboards, etc. My point in taking the photo was to capture how people "reacted" to the print. But then, it could still be intellectual rights that I could possibly be breaching if I post them online as "my" shots. What do you think?

Thanks for your responses.

I am not sure and know nithing about it legally...but don't tourist do that all the time in museums and such? I would think if you quoted who the print was by, you are not claiming credit for that work, but for the picture of the people viewing it. No?

I think that's a good point. Thanks @lrappa!

I think if your focus is the person looking at the picture, it's not a problem. You are not then taking a picture of the object itself.

It should not be an issue if you do not claim the picture to be yours. If you know who took that background photo, you may want to note it in your blog.
