ONE photo a day!

November 18th, 2011
in my photography class my instructor decided if we wanted an easy A. we had to take ONLY one photo a day. not multiples and pick the best. onle one shutter release. he loved how in the film days you had to set your camera for the perfect shot before you snapped it. so our assignment was to take 1 snapshot a day. for all of November. so i figured it would be fun to bring this concept here.

anyone up for the challenege. like maybe Starting monday the 21st. only allowing yourself to take 1 photo a day for a week. no matter how bad. set it up the first shot and allow yourself no editing of any kind. cropping or processing no exposure fixing.

anyone up for it?

Bahahaha. If I did that, I'd be FIRED! I'm a travel photographer. I need to have 350 photos delivered to clients by the end of next week.

It sounds like a very interesting concept, though. And a neat challenge.

Perfect challenge! I've been really busy lately--that would help me stop using fillers and reject photos, lol I'll start Monday

Oy vey. I took five pictures this morning on my way to work and I live like seven minutes away. :) I totally don't know if I could do this - but it sounds really cool, and is a great idea.

No way! I remember film days and was always frustrated at the cost . It really hampered my creativity. The advent of digital cameras gives me the freedom to take as many shots as I want - I can't give that up!

@timandelke i agree i'm looking ate getting rid of all my film gear

Hmmm ... often I do just that but I most days I take one or two of different things throughout the day. At the end I decide which will be the photo for the day. I would go crazy. If I stayed with these rules I would miss opportunities. If I find a great picture in the morning and then something comes along in the evening that is better or more meaningful to me I'd have a problem because I already took a picture. Would never work for me. I leave myself open to whatever presents itself throughout the day or night.

I'm not going to do it, but I agree with the idea of thinking twice before clicking and clicking. Take time to think about composition, settings, etc. instead of taking 50 pics and discarding 49, or doing heavy editing.
I think that one pic a day is a bit extreme though. We have the chance to experiment much more than with film pics, so it would also be stupid not to take this opportunity as a training.

I am so often surprised at the one photo I like the best that I wouldn't want to go back to one a day. I was always sure I was a poor photographer- waiting for the prints, being disappointed in so many of them- crooked, blurred, not centred. Paying so much to see that stopped me from trying and convinced me that my dad's photography talent had skipped a generation to my daughter. Digital point and shoot has given me the chance to just try different things and to have the results almost immediately. It's exciting to go home and upload the shots! Being able to straighten a crooked horizon or crop the photo a bit to enhance the shot is a lot of fun!

@kmrtn6 @timandelke I've started collecting vintage and other film cameras and learning more about shooting on them - I'm going in just the opposite direction as you are. :)

i see your point in wanting and liking the fact of taking photos. which is why what i've decided to do myself is pick my subject for the day and say "ok this is my 1 a day" get it perfect and click. and then continue on taking pictures of other things that isn't my 1 a day. but i also want to stress that it's ONLY a week. :)

@lilkitty90 If you're taking a photo that "is my 1 a day", and continue taking pictures of things that "isn't my 1 a day" then how does that jive with the idea of the challenge? "Only one shutter release...only 1 photo a day for a week, no matter how bad..." I has a confused. :)

when i started the year, i said i'd take only one shot on the 15th of every month. i did this a total of twice. complete failure. but i could try for one week. i may add an extra challenge and photograph people. perhaps it'll force me to learn how to be quicker about it with someone waiting on me. i suck at that.

@beautifulthing no i'm going to join in on the ONLY one shutter release a day as well for a week. my instructor is encouraging me to try at least a week of only 1 shutter release. so i'm giving it a go. i thought it would be fun for others to try as well. maybe not but i thought i would throw it out just in case anyone is up for it as well.
