2017.01.04 Wednesday: After a nicely warm start to January, today our weather turned quite cold with a stiff breeze. Our backyard birds turned to food to keep up their energy; many of them made rather frequent trips to our feeders today.
This adorable male Downy woodpecker ate his fill of suet ...I hope that it was "comfort food" to him and made him feel warmer!
Beautiful picture of this hungry downy! Cold days are so great for birdwatching. I'm sure he was thankful to have access to a full birdfeeder. This looks even more special when viewed on the black background.
