as a mother it is hard for me to watch my son skateboard...he has been riding for 10+ years (since age 4)...although he is completly adept and very good....there is nothing like watching your child throw himself at the pavement....i prefer to photograph the less "extreme" side of him on his board.....standing still...thus...the collage. :)
It seems to me mums never stop worrying.....my mum is nearly 83 and I'm..er....anyway she still worries about me!! That's what mum's are for...apparently...:-) Love the shots.
I strongly empathize. My son was fearless as a young teenager. Then he got back on his board out of boredom one vacation during college and promptly crashed and broke his arm.
I know. You can't help but scream in pain when they take a tumble. They will realize one day when they have kids what that does to us. But they must have fun.
Pamela: Don't worry, skateboarding is a very fun sport to do. I skated for around 10 years between the age of 11 and 22 or so and only stopped because I had a major melanoma operation on the back of my pivot leg (your son will understand what I'm talking about). Anyway, it weakened my knee tendon and I can only stay on a board for about 15 minutes before stacking it now.
But when I was skatin' around Logan City, I used be gone for around an hour every afternoon and then 3 hours on Saturday and Sunday. It keeps you very fit and healthy. The sport is good for your heart and cardio... and if he jogs with his board when he runs out of road until the next piece of road, he'll find he'll last longer tick-tacking or doing ramp routines.
Also, if he get half-cushions on his trucks, the board will be closer to the ground and he'll find he won't hurt his knees so much if he doesn't have any at all. Your son should have some kind of cushions between the trucks and the board, it'll help him later in life (this has to do with his knees and hips).
