news from the lake..

this morning.

according to
john ~ tom ~ jack
{and now me}...

~* the ice is now 4 inches thick...perfectly safe for the large quantity of fish houses on it. apparently we can all ignore the LARGE blinking sheriff's "ICE IS NOT SAFE" advisory sign located at the boat launch....it is just not so.

~* tom skated around the entire perimeter of the lake yesterday. he states he fell at the pressure crack on the west side... right before the end of his skate. no worries...he is OK.

~* john states he has been skating the lake also. he informs us that lady his dog has been ice skating too. we all discuss how this is possible.

~* jack notifies us he was talking to a man who was playing hockey at the beach before we arrived...they were exchanging information about the dead croppies...which are frozen in the ice about 3 inches from the top...across a good portion of the west end...going south says john. this is true...as i have seen them & wondered.

~* apparently the hockey man HAS notified the dnr. and...the dnr is NOT concerned.

~* all of us agree the dnr SHOULD be concerned.

~* jack says perhaps its from the eagle migration here last week. what...really? john promptly updates me on the migration. all 3 individually at some point witnessed this and filled me in. 15+ eagles in a circle on the ice...straight out from the boat launch....more in the trees...hunting the merganzers. perhaps the croppies ??? we don't know ??? we just can't be sure ???

~* jack looks down at my feet & notifies me he has concerns about my walking on the ice with my hiking boots. much too slippery for them. he thinks i need to get some spikey strap on thingys he has on his. much easier to get around on the ice...better traction. he knows...since he has fallen many times before...very effective he states. john & tom agree.

~* the dogs are continuously looking for treats in my pockets. jack states he has some in his car...i know this already because earlier tom told me. i have no dog treats with me & decide it is time for me to continue on with my walk. {the dogs are becoming a bit too insistant}

~* i decide to take the sidewalk back...not the lake....safety 1st.

i love my neighbors.

from the book walking medicine lake...

Tom
