bottle gentian.. by earthbeone

bottle gentian..

a beautiful blue
late summer wildflower
of moist meadows
and prairies.

the bottle gentians never open. it's primary pollinator is the bumblebee, who is one of the few insects able to force open the closed corolla.

i spotted this one along the path at the eloise butler wildflower garden yesterday on our walk thru.

i have never seen one before. such a pretty blue.

from the book confessions of a traveling gypsee...
