R is for Roving Reporter

Big fire on Moorgate today and as I had nothing better to do at lunchtime I took a walk over.

Loads of fire crews and ambulance staff, mostly stood around whilst a couple of firefighters on the top of a couple of ladders waved their hoses around ... The Salvation Army tea wagon was also there doling out tea, coffee and water to the emergency services.

And this intrepid reporter and her cameraman - I'm guessing she's going to regret wearing that coat; she'll never get the smell of smoke out of it.

And, for the reporter, cameraman, and fire and ambulance crews, this is all part of their 9-5 ...
The cameraman has a camera for a head, and the two guys in uniform are in the middle of the frame, but out of eyeline for her. Very nice composition and strong narrative quality.

lol! i read somewhere there was 26 firetrucks!? I know it was a big fire but that sounds excessive to me. Guess they don't see these very often

Yeah, saw this on the Beeb this morning, then my girlfriend flicked to NDTV (Indian news channel) and they were making out it was the next fire of London...!!!!

That's one you couldn't have thought up the night before! Great on-sight photo journalism...

I love the composition. You have an entire story in the image, even if you don't know what the emergency is.
