Gorilla Triste by epcello

Gorilla Triste

This distinguished lady caught my eye at the zoo. She was looking at each of the people watching her, one at a time. We have a wonderful, conservation-oriented zoo where I live. However, it's difficult to see her there, behind glass, living out her life in captivity.
I hear you. For years I wouldn't go to a zoo for that reason, but then I had children! She does look so distinguished like you say, and not particularly impressed.

Great image! Of all the zoo animals, the gorillas always seem to be the most unhappy to me.

What a fabulous expression. I hope she is happy in her environment. I wonder what she is thinking as she does a spot of people watching.

I know zoos do good conservation work these days but I still hate to see large animals like this confined to small spaces. Unfortunately they are hunted to near extinction in the wild so I don't know what the solution is. She has indeed a very sad face which you have captured so well

What an amazing expression on that face - I wonder what's going on in that head!

@kiwichick Lesley, exactly. My kids begged us to go to the zoo. My husband won't go near the gorilla exhibit. I think it's good for kids to see the animals, to get an idea of how majestic they are and that they are worth saving.

@cejaanderson Jane, they do seem unhappy, don't they? They're too close to humans...
@yaorenliu Yao, thank you!
@onewing I was wondering what she was thinking, as well. All of these people staring at her, day after day..
@kelly2 That's the thing. Are they better off in the zoos where they will be protected? It's such a tragedy that people have made it nearly impossible for them to survive in the wild.
@barb_b I wonder, too.
@sue_s Thank you, Sue.
@barbtatum Barb, doesn't she?
@yolanda Thank you!

Beautifully captured.

This is so beautifully captured. We don't often go to the zoo, as my husband is from Africa and is used to see the animals roaming wild. She looks a bit unhappy, it gives me a pang of sadness.

I agree with you, it makes me sad too. I would rather not see any animals in captivity, unless it's necessary to help save them from extinction. But this is a beautiful capture.
