20140609 - Wells Cathedral

Wells Cathedral was a huge surprise - this immense and imposing early Gothic building in such a small city. We greatly enjoyed a walking tour with a local volunteer guide.
The unusual X, or scissor arch as it is commonly called, was added as bracing in the 14th century when the cathedral began to sink under the weight of the tower. The shot is off-centre because I liked the effect of the light coming in from the left.
