The Basin Reserve is located between Mount Victoria and Mount Cook in inner city Wellington. Although there is a grandstand, many spectators prefer the grass bank on the eastern side of the ground.
The ground is protected by Act of Parliament and is New Zealand's only sports ground on the National Heritage list.
