The Old Government Building in Wellington has the British Royal Coat of Arms on it because New Zealand did not have its own coat of arms when it was constructed in 1876.
During renovations in 1980 it was decided that the little lion that sat atop the crown needed to be replaced by a replica, and the restored original is now on display inside.
