I am not sure what these are, but it appears to be a female adult and two juveniles. I think they are wood ducks, as there were quite a few males there and a couple of Wood Duck pairs. The smaller one on the left has one eye open and one shut.
Thank your for viewing and your comments, I appreciate it.
Good shot! A local bird expert explained to me that ducks can sleep with one eye open, their brains are made that way, so when asleep they can still be aware of approaching danger. Don't know if it is true.
What a great shot, Linda. I learned a lot over the last few months and love the wood ducks and Mandarin ducks. They are so beautiful. Here is a photo of Mandarin ducks, the colorful one is the male and the gray one is the female. The female looks a lot like the female wood duck. I have a photo of the female wood duck, I think but having problems attaching links to them for you. Will cut and paste or create another post so you can see the difference. http://365project.org/darsphotos/365-year-2/2013-05-31
@grannysue I am cracking up as you shared the link of your wood ducks with me or on one of your photos and I saw it. I have the same photos though they are separate. You can also google Wood Ducks and Mandarin Ducks and see the difference. Rare to have Mandarin Ducks here as they are from Asia.
