The baby birds are coming back to roost each night, roosting on a ledge near their old nest. Their parents have not joined them yet, at least while we are up and about. They are being scared by the fireworks that are being shot in the neighborhood.
Thank you for viewing and commenting, it is appreciated. Thanks also for the comments and the fav's on my butterfly photo that was posted yesterday, it is appreciated.
@edorreandresen Thank you! The parents joined them later on, but I did not want to go disturb them due to all the fireworks being shot around here. I wanted them to stay safe.
@sangwann Thank you for visiting! We have really enjoyed watching this little family hatch and grow up. They will probably return for awhile, then next year, the parents may come back and nest here again.
@ninaganci Thank you, Nina. I wish they would ban private use of the fireworks and just leave it to the professionals. It is banned in cities, but they shoot them anyway. Just last night, a teenager was shooting them in town, something blew up on his chest area, causing severe burns and cardiac arrest, he did not make it. Some shot fireworks, they went through windows and caught fire to people's curtains. It is so dangerous.
@pyrrhula Thank you! They know that is their home, so they will come back for quite a while. When weather gets cold, they migrate somewhere, I think, for they won't reappear until spring.
@olivetreeann Thank you, Ann. We fretted over their safety while they were defenseless babies, it is so good to know they can at least try to fly out of danger now. The parents showed up a little later on. The parents may return next year to try to raise another brood.
Yes they do return to the same spot. we have a lot of sparrows and to my eye they all look alike. the first brood is now looking after themselves and come October the parents will have another try at it.
@bruni We had a pair some years ago that came year after year. The only way we could tell the difference was the coloring changed as they got older. I feel confident that the ones that were here now are descendants of the first couple. We have some sparrows that visit the feeder but never found their nests.
