10.08 am: Sinterklaas (Saint Nicholas) time has started in The Netherlands. Each year this holy man comes from Spain by boat to hand out presents and candy to children. It is the most important Winter holiday for kids in my country.
My husband and I were lucky enough to see one of his steam vessels pass by when we were having breakfast in our hotel in Rotterdam. You can see our food reflected in the lower part of the window. We had a lovely time at the hotel and, safe for an evening walk through the historical harbour, did little more than rest, eat and relax.
