This is ivy broomrape which is parasitic on said plant and used in our local nature reserve to keep the ivy from completely choking everything else.

@thewatersphotos I've just googled kudzu having never heard of it before. Looks a menace. I think you need to acquire a herd of goats!

@hermann @shylaine3304 @tonygig It's a curious plant but there's something about the upright brown flowers against all the surrounding green that I find appealing
