I spotted Speke Aerodrome, this wonderful Art Deco building, looking dramatic against the dark sky as I drove by today.
It brought back lots of memories, I used to travel home to the Isle of Man from here when I was at Uni, in those days it was still the airport for Liverpool. Funnily enough one of the preserved aircraft that's parked outside is a Shorts 360, the 'Shed' that Manx Airlines used for the trip across the Irish Sea - an expensive rollercoaster ride!
The first scheduled service in the 1930s was from Liverpool to Blackpool and cost the equivalent of 90p return.
The building has thankfully been renovated - at the front it looks much tidier - it's now a Crowne Plaza Hotel.
