A day of natural wonder

We arrived in Reykjavik this morning and got off the ship to meet our guide for the day. We had a full day out with him exploring the natural wonders of Iceland.

He took us to see some pretty spectacular sights, I'm still trying to take it all in, it was so amazing.

This is the hot springs at Geysir, this one called Strokker erupts 50 feet into the air every few minutes. We managed to stand away from the crowds to photograph it but realised why when we got showered a few seconds later. At least it was warm water!

Our guide had a specially adapted vehicle that could be driven on ice, so we went into the mountains and onto the glacier where we could see the mountains and volcanoes in the distance. We visited waterfalls, walked along a ravine caused by the movement of the tectonic plates and saw inside a crater of an old volcano where we saw the different colours of the lava rock. The temperature was 20 degrees celsius this afternoon as we were driving back to the ship and just 5 on the glacier.

A memorable day which started rather early this morning (2am) with the northern lights, such a fantastic sight but not too easy to photograph from a moving ship!
Fasntastic...

That sounds like an amazing day! Wonderful capture of the geyser with fantastic action of the water in the shot and a great blue backdrop of the sky and clouds.
