Let me take you down...

We didn't want to join in the bank holiday mayhem on the roads so we set off from home for a walk, looking at places nearby that we see all the time but never stop to photograph.

Unusually there weren't many people here when we arrived but there was plenty of evidence of who'd been here before!
Good capture. Our friend lives near here!

Fabulous shot. I recently watched a documentary about John Lennon and it mentioned that he used to go to parties at Strawberry Field when it was a children's home.
Is the building still there or are only the gates left now? fav

The ornate red gates seem very fitting.

@onewing Thanks Babs. The children's home closed in 2005 and the Victorian building has been demolished. The site is still owned by the Salvation Army and they've got plans to build a training centre for young people with learning disabilities. There'll also be a visitor centre so Beatles fans can go inside for the first time to see the place that inspired John Lennon to write the song. Not sure what'll happen to the gates but I can't see them getting rid, they're so iconic (don't tell anyone but these are not the original gates anyway!)

@inthecloud5 Thanks for that Christine. just looked up what happened to the original gates. The replicas look good though. I wonder if the original ones will ever be auctioned off. I read they are being kept in a secure location.

@onewing they're on display at the moment in the Beatles Story exhibition at the Albert Dock, I think it's to create publicity for the Salvation Army fundraising effort for the redevelopment. These are a very good copy though, I don't think anyone would be able to tell the difference!

This is really an effective scene -- I like the busy-ness of it all, the bright clean lines of the red fence, and the sense of story. Really good!
