This is one of the otters we saw this afternoon with an octopus that it brought from the sea on to the rocks to eat.
We got a call from the otter guide this morning who said he was sitting looking at 2 otters, so we jumped in the car and got to his location as quickly as we could. With his help and expertise we followed the otters, a mother and her two cubs, along the rocky shoreline of the bay as they dived for food and brought it on to the rocks to eat. The octopus was a bonus, the guide said he'd never seen them catch and eat an octopus at this location before!
The wind was in the right direction so they couldn't detect we were nearby and we had the most incredible close-up encounter with them. All three of them were together at one point, rolling around on the rocks in front of us.
One of the things I really wanted to do this holiday was to get photos of otters but as soon as we saw them I didn't think about the camera and settings, I just wanted to watch them and soak up the experience. Luckily the camera did its stuff and I came away with a few photos as well!
@vignouse it was indeed ๐ They fish in the sea but need to be near fresh water to clean themselves so their holts are always near a stream running down to the sea. Plenty to eat around here so they seem to be doing well.
