My boy, Diego, does well in school. He gets good grades, is helpful, and follows directions. He does everything he is supposed to do. However, when it comes to unit tests, his scores are sometimes less than stellar.

Yesterday, he stood before me with papers in hand and said, "I want you to look at my test." He handed it to me and said, "I took a really long time on it." Right away I saw the 'A' and high-fived him. I went through all of the questions and told him how proud I was. I called Daddy and told him, too. You should have seen my boy's smile.

As the evening wore on, I noticed Diego carrying his test around. His chest seemed to grow a little bigger everytime he would glance down at it. He asked me where he should put it. Normally, I review papers and then they go into the trash. Yet, I sensed this paper was destined for greater things. I told him to set it on Daddy's dresser so that he could see it when he gets home.

........Oh, that smile.

This morning I asked Diego to go get his test so that I could make it my picture of the day. He bounded up the stairs, returned in a flash, and set it on the kitchen table where he had been playing with his Legos.

I love this picture. It makes me think of my boy......and his smile.
