We made a long overdue trip to visit a special someone today.
Mary is my Great Aunt. Her sister was my paternal grandmother. My paternal grandfather was Mary's husband's brother. Confused? You shouldn't be. It is really a very neat thing, two brothers marrying two sisters.
I never knew my grandfather which always left me mesmerized by my Great Uncle. When I was near him, I wondered how much alike the two brothers had been. How much of my grandfather could I see in my uncle?
My grandmother passed away when I was 18. I miss her. I wonder what she would think of who I have come to be. What would she think of my family? I take comfort in the fact that her sister, my Great Aunt Mary, is everything I would want my grandmother to be. She loves me, I love her. She loves my family, they love her. It couldn't possibly be any other way. Afterall, we *are* talking about Aunt Mary The Great.
