Phoebe got a Jack-in-the-Box for her birthday. This morning I heard the music racing furiously through the air and looked over to discover Lili, madly turning the handle, all the while, staring with HUGE eyes, straight back at me. The box popped open and she jumped and blinked. She gave a frustrated "ARGH!!", closed the box and started all over again...ending with the same results. Before she got a chance to repeat the process once again, I interjected and said, "Hey, Lil....whatcha doin'?" She said, "I'm tryin' to do it with out blinking. I 'm gonna do it this time. WATCH!"
It's been a good 2 hours and she has yet to be successful in her quest to perfect a cold stone stare. She has gotten bored with it and walked away but, each time, it pulls her back. And, each time, she is so full of anticipation that, not only does she blink, but she also jumps about 2 inches off of the sofa.
Sure, the dilated pupils and bulging eyes that have been staring me down all morning have gotten a little uncomfortable/creepy and, sure, I could redirect her....give her books to read, puzzles to solve, food for her brain..... But I know how very much a cold stone stare can come in handy for a girl and if you're going to do it, you better make sure you can do it right.
