Embrace me.....not!

Don’t know what kind of tree this is, but I saw a lot of them in Sicily.
Found our what it is: ceiba-pentandra (kapokboom or kapok tree)

How interesting - I thought at first it was a host of little sea creatures exposed at low tide. Not a tree I would like to hug!
