The wonderful Puyallup Valley, with rich soil, has been farmed for generations. Sadly, much of it has been sold to developers and ugly housing developments are springing up where there used to be strawberries, rhubarb, cabbage, and other crops. The view across to the mountains is an attraction for developers, but sad for those of us who love the land. This particular property is for sale. A local bulb grower is retiring and selling. I hope a farmer buys it, but not very likely. The price is hefty.
Jan, I feel for you. Here when they sell a fram for development -- at $10K an acre -- it's not such a big deal scenery wise because it's very flat and not very scenic. But where you are, this would make me sad, too. I'd be happy to come and farm it if I win the lottery! Maybe start a CSA!
Beautiful view. Shame about the story behind it and a common one in many countries. The lovely countryside around here is ear marked for development - one reason why I want to record it so much now. The price of everything and the value of nothing....
@andrina@sansjuan@pflaume@mamamia@bristolrose@steviepix@carolb - Carol I would love to start a CSA. Thanks all - I think we all have this issue in our areas - makes me wonder where the food will be grown when all the farmland is filled with ugly houses....
Definitely sad news. Oregon has some strong land use rules that at least makes these kinds of changes slower and more thoughtful. Lots of controversy, though. People so want to make their own decisions about their own land (like sell it for lots of $$$ to developers).
