The farmers market I go to has a small stage for entertainers, and usually several street musicians set up and perform in various locations. I felt bad for this young man - he was doing a pretty good job but it was cold and overcast and people seemed to be keeping their wallets in their pockets. Hopefully he will do better next weekend.
I really like this shot. The colours and composition are great. I know how he feels as last year I took a break from nursing and took our organic vegetables and eggs to the local farmers market., it was not worth the time and effort in the end so I went back to my old job.
@bristolrose - Thanks Kathryn - I think it's really hard to make a living at selling your produce - many years ago I tried a little stand too, when I lived in the San Juan Islands, and so many others were doing it, it just wasn't worthwhile (and neither was selling craft items). I think the people who do well are those who have farms and attend all the local markets - in this area different communities have their market on other days of the week - and the Olympia Farmers Market runs Thurs-Sun in the summer. There are three main vendors I support and I am always glad when I see them return.
@paul2782 - Thanks Paul - I am glad you noticed the guy coming the other way - I had to angle a bit to get him in - if you were just looking at the guy with the guitar you would think it a nice warm day with his shirtsleeves - I had on a long sleeved t-shirt, and a jacket and the wind was biting. Right after this it started raining,.
@grammyn@mak2@denisedaly@maggiemae@amandakay129@joannbayne@cathrinemitch@vitamink@mamamia@swilde@cathieg - thanks for the nice comments. If this fellow is playing his guitar next weekend, I will try and get a pic from the front. :-) @elaine55 - thanks Elaine. I use Picasa 3 - the editing options are pretty basic - but for this one I adjusted the saturation a little, and used an option called lomo-ish and then on top of that did HDR-ish. SOOC was pretty dull. I will eventually get some decent editing software but for now I am trying to limit the time I spend editing so it works for me.
@jankoos thanks Jan I use Picasa 3 too. I do have Photoshop Elements 10 and am starting to use that and then I have a trial version of Photomatix for HDR which I need to buy because the final shot has their logo on it 3 times across the photo. Just discovered Ribbet too which is a free online one and does different things again. Like you I am only just on the surface of all this editing and normally don't do much to my photos. It is a bit of a learning curve doing something like this project. I hope you don't mind me saying but I have noticed how your photography has come on since the beginning of the project.
Thanks so much, Elaine - it is very kind of you to say that. I have learned a tremendous amount from all the lovely people here - and still so much to learn. I am playing with different things at the moment with regard to stepping outside my box - birds and landscapes are my comfort zone - trying to do more. With Picasa - I think Picasa 3 is different from Picasa Web - I may be wrong though. Someone else mentioned Ribbet recently - @Chard I believe. It's fun to play with ideas and see what works.
