Another pic from my excursion to Centralia. This was a mural outside the train station advertising a hotel with electric lights and steam. No sign of this lovely building that we could find. I found the mass of overhead wires amusing given the mention of electric lights. I was also really pleased to see that this lovely mural hasn't been tagged with grafitti.
That's a wonderful mural! It took me a minute to realize that this is large scale and not a plaque. Very cool find and capture. Our wonder what a hack is?? :)
@pflaume - Thanks Lisa - it was pretty huge - on the side of a building. I should have left something in the foreground so the scale could be realized.
I believe the hack is the horse/cart that would pick the hotel guests up from the train station.
Excellent find...looks better on black..:) Grand Hotel...has great gold and red tones! It did take me a minute to figure out it is FULL size too...really nice shot Jan! :)
That's a fabulous mural Jan and ironic that it has overhead wires across. A great find Jan, shame the building isn't there any longer. There is a programme on Internet that you can download for free to take out wires in easy steps, if you are interested I will find out for you. Great on large!
@nanderson - Thanks Nancy - I added a black border, too. @mamamia - Thanks Joanne - I have been researching and so far have not found it - but I will keep at it - LOL. @elaine55 - Thanks Elaine - I would love to see the pic without the wires and would love a link to that site. There was no other way for me to get the pic. I did decide it was OK - part of the decay of the area series. @sansjuan - Thanks Nita!
@megmills - Thanks Meg - I think the Hotel is gone, but oddly enough I couldn't find it googling, either. @vitamink - Thanks K.
@mamamia@elaine55@megmills@eyesmile - I found a postcard on the internet that showed the hotel in 1910 - it mentioned 14 bustling hotels along Tower Avenue - guessing they are all gone now - I wonder if the building the mural is on is where the hotel was?
I believe the hack is the horse/cart that would pick the hotel guests up from the train station.
