Taken from our wooden bridge and looking down. To the left you see a salmon. They are not edible - they are spawning - they lay their eggs and then die. I believe this is a chum salmon. I was playing with shutter speed. The colors are from pebbles, leaves that have fallen, and reflections from the tree overhanging the bridge and river.
How cool, Jan. We just were looking into the shallow Silver Creek in Silverton, Oregon and I was thinking it sure would be neat if we could see salmon spawning. What a wonderous thing to observe. We did get to see Kokanee Salmon swimming upstream from Wallowa Lake last year.
@nanderson - thanks Nancy - I had to crop it a lot. @cathieg - thanks Cathie - I love watching the salmon. We don't see many, and if the river is too high we don't see them at all. Because we have had so much rain, I can't walk along the river because it's too high - but shallow enough I can see them from the bridge. @nanalisarocks - awww - thanks Lisa. @eu4ria1 - Thanks Ria! @taffy - thanks Taffy - my other one was of a dead salmon and my hubby thought that was morbid.
