Had an adventure today that's too wordy too write in detail but in essence what we thought would be a rough but doable road to a view point of Mt Rainier ended up being a one car width rutted hairpin bend, drop on one side, ditch on the other trail. When we ran into snow it wasn't pretty - we have 4WD and chains - but there was nowhere to pull over to chain up and no way to turn around. Had to drive backwards a fair way and my hubby found a wider spot to do a ten point turn - I opted to get out of the vehicle because it was too scary to think about what would happen if we went over the edge. We did walk up a trail but rain into some people smoking pot and drinking malt liquor - so decided to call it a day and speed walked on the snow back to the truck. Yikes!! On the way down I noted trash everywhere - beer cans, used toiled paper and all manner of ammo wrappings. Obviously where people go to party and shoot stuff. We did find a pretty stream and I practiced slow shutter speeds.
@luvmynynix - Thanks Laurie. It was pretty dark in the trees and I took a bunch a shots - I knew I needed a slow shutter speed and then just messed with aperture and ISO until I liked what I saw. I used a tripod, too.
That's a scary situation - glad you made it out OK. I have had something similar happen when looking for an old ghost town in eastern Oregon. I just had to hold my breath and avert my eyes while the driver soldiered on to get us out of there. Nice you were able to get a calming shot after all that!
@cindy_k - Thanks Cindy - we had a similar experience with not being able to turn around on an old logging road near Enumclaw many years ago. Not so keen on that sort of thing.
What a day....great shot.... we went off road today too and I expected all that you experienced.... except the snow... but luckily our trip was uneventful.....
Beautiful scene Jan, I love the colours and the soft water, fav. Doesn't it make you angry when people treat beautiful places like a litter bin, so selfish and ignorant!
Sounds really scary Jan, especially the partying side of it, rubbish and all. I think you have practiced your slow shutter speed really well and this is a lovely shot.
Oh my! What an adventure you had. Your description of the road alone makes my stomach do flip flops. So glad you made it down safe and sound! This is a wonderful shot. Great job with the long exposure!
@dakotaburns - thanks Donald - appreciate your lovely comment. Litter tends to be that way - such a harsh difference from the beautiful surround. Just behind where I was standing, the signs alerting drivers to the narrow bridge were riddled with bullet holes.
