Slack Key Guitar by jaybutterfield

Slack Key Guitar

We went to the Island Soul Celebration of Hawai'ian Music and Culture at the Musco Center at Chapman College today. George Kahumoku, Nathan Aweau, David Kahiapo and Na Lei Hulu I Ka Wekiu. Beautiful music (traditional and modern) and hula (some traditional but also men and women dancing hula interpreting modern music). Awesome performance -- unfortunately, photography of the performance was not allowed, but this was George's guitar on stage prior to the beginning.
Love this shot -instant fav. Shame you couldn't take any performance shots but that's so often the way - however the guitar itself tells a story and the lighting and colours are lovely

@dorsethelen @judithdeacon @hermann @dawnee Thank you. The performance was stunning and well worth the drive. We saw them in Maui two years ago and were so excited to see them in our own back yard.

Wow do I wish I'd known about this in advance! I'd have loved that music, but it would have pained me greatly not to be able to take photos (though I do get it...) Chapman isn't far from us at all! Darn!

@Weezilou Lots of cultural arts programs going on at Chapman. And that Musco performing hall . . . amazing.

@jaybutterfield Truly, thank you for the input! I'll get a schedule from them, and perhaps might be able to enjoy something sometime! Local colleges have a history of bringing in good entertainment!
