"Red sky in morning
Sailor take warning
Red sky at night
Sailor's delight"
--old nautical proverb
I never really understood this except that the "red sky" often heralded storms and if they were in the morning sky (east) that means they were headed your way (from a Eurocentric west facing mariner's view) and if seen at night the storm was past as it was in the west.
This was not taken near the water but perhaps someone influenced by the fires far away. Still the ominous shade doesn't portend anyone's "delight"
