November 2 is Day of the Dead -- Dia de Muertos
-- celebrating the memory of past loved ones. I help raise money for a local afterschool center in West Los Angeles that has been providing enrichment programs for middle school and high school youth for over 70 years -- they have a 100% high school graduation and college entry percentage and do it all on a shoestring budget. The children many who are from Hispanic cultures, made ofrendas (altars with keepsakes and pictures of their parents, grandparents, or others who have passed away) to honor their memories of those who are gone but not forgotten and to celebrate that death is not final but just a passage.
