Early on Friday morning, a fire broke out in Woolsey Canyon in Los Angeles. With fierce Santa Ana wind gusts up to 50mph and humidity at a punishingly low 5%, the flames swept through Bell Canyon, West Hills, Agoura, and headed toward Malibu. Before the week was out it had burned 100,000 acres and destroyed over 500 homes. We were evacuated (but never in any danger) -- the reason for this weeklong picture upload as I was out of my house and away from the computer for six days. The devastation from this fire was tremendous -- homes worth millions were left mere rubble and burnt sticks in its path and the fire today a week later is still not fully contained. The price of living in California (Northern California has had no respite from fires as well) and of eight years of drought.
Major thanks to the safety personnel and firefighters who put their lives on the line to fight this monster. We owe them much and the inconvenience of being unable to return home for a week pales in comparison to the dangerous and heroic work they are doing -- and to those who have lost everything.
