Spring Crocuses by jbritt

Spring Crocuses

I photographed signs of spring with my macro lens. I love getting close and it was even harder than usual to pick a single photo today. So nice to see buds in the bright sun even though it felt chilly this afternoon.
This time of year, spring is geographical: crocuses on my side of the Beltway haven't yet awakened. I've always enjoyed the vicariousness of photography - the sharing of experience or vision that motivates my every shutter click. So too do I receive a photograph, with the same vicarious thrill that comes from listening to the tales of travelers.

Now, this photo is rich with every promise of spring, in a color scheme that resonates for me semantically. The coarse bokeh works well here! The single dominant color and the shallow depth of field seamlessly meld the foreground crocus with its cousins mid-field and the contrasted green background, lending it a dreamlike quality, a suggestion to me of the vibrant transition still to come in the unfolding season. The unfocused hint of stigma is the fire in the heart of spring, the 'force that through the green fuse drives the flower,' as the mad Welsh poet said.

WOW! Love the color. My crocuses have said good-bye but my other beauties are all full of themselves!
