I'm not given to long narratives but there is a very kind person who needs a mention in my project. This lady (a friend of a friend) has been looking for 'just the right person' to give her much loved piano to as she no longer played it and having met my daughter (who we have been looking for a piano for as her lessons have progressed), decided it should be her. This is a beautiful old piece and certainly not something you'd find easily in the modern world. But the carving is beautiful, the wood is walnut - it even has the candle holders still attached) and it arrived today in all its glory at my house where it has been installed and fits right into a very convenient space. My daughter is in love with it and has played it all afternoon. Long may it continue! Thank you so much to our new friend, Mrs Tweedie! :-)
Well isn't that a kind & generous thing to do, your daughter will be thrilled! I'm sure she will appreciate the gift enormously. Beaitiful carving, I can understand why it's such a well loved piece, completely individual.
Oh wow. How nice. We once became recipients of my husband's grandmother's baby grand piano. But alas, as it turned out, the frame was cracked and fixing it would have been impossible (or impossibly expensive). So, unfortunately, we parted, but I remember the feeling when something full of history arrives at your house that could give you/your children much joy.
Beautiful piano/ well rescued. So many of these old Victorian pianos end up in he landfill. It's such a shame. I rescued mine form the very verge of going into a skip and it has been a real joy for many years now. :)
Beautiful carvings and a lovely story. When I was learning to play (very many years ago now) my Nana bought me a second hand piano from a 'grand house'......it too had candle holders and lovely carvings.....
