School ends in mid-May here and when I flew out last year, the river was still frozen and there was still snow on the tundra, although the grass was showing through. The first time I visited here was on June 21, 8 years ago and there were still very large chunks of ice in the coastal sound. And then it starts snowing again as early as September. The July average temperature is only 54 degrees!
