Kobuk 440

Celebrity musher, Jeff King, 4-time winner of the Iditarod comes thru our small village, leading the pack of the smaller Kobuk 440 race. The whole village turns out to welcome all the mushers through the long night.
how exciting it must be to see the mushers come through :)

@cruiser Christian Turner? He came in 15th in the Iditarod! That's a fantastic showing! Good job! This year, for the first time, the Iditarod came within 86 miles of our village. Normally it's 146 miles away. There was so little snow this year on the normal Anchorage-to-Nome route, they had to re-route the race from Fairbanks-to-Nome. The Iditarod ended on 3/22. My photo is from the much shorter Kobuk 440 race, currently going on. The current leader, Jeff King, is a legend of the more famous Iditarod.

@sitiodown It's not the Iditarod, but there are many local races around here - both distance and sprint races. It's a lot fun for everyone. And it's exciting when one of the Big Celebrities comes through!
@mona65 Thanks, Mona!
@thistle Thanks Joyce. Very exciting indeed!

Really interesting photo Joan. What do the dogs have on their paws?

He looks the essence of cool Joan... he has celebrity written all over him. The black dog near the front of the team looks to be a completely different race to the others - what's the story here?
