"Nasty Urchins"

They look like little brains to me, but no, it's the little nasturtium seeds my students planted this past week. My grandfather used to call them nasty urchins!
at first glance I thought you'd been baking muffins!

whatever do they grow into?

@cruiser Nasturtiums are vibrant orange-red-yellow blossoms with flat, round leaves. Delicious in salads with a peppery taste. They thrive on neglect and grow fast, which makes them a great classroom planting success!

@jetr I would never have guessed. I love Nasturtiums and they grow wild near the creek over the road from our house. I have never eaten then though. the student should have fun watching them grow

ooo, thrive on neglect. I flashed on bread, not brains also. Very cool to see them up close like this.

Ha! I was hoping it was a close-up of cookies! Hope we get to see the urchins growing!

I also thought these were cookies at first. Great closeup of the nasturtium seeds, emphasizing their texture. Wonderful dof and a fav for me. I love the flowers which these will eventually bring forth, they are among my favourites.
