I was at McNabs Island Provincial Park today, picking up garbage. We were told to hang onto anything we found interesting, to share with the organizers at the end of the day, so I carried this [respirator] around for a few hours. Do you want to know what, besides plastic shopping bags, are the scourge of the earth....? Plastic tampon applicators. They should be banned. There are some teeny tiny sailboats out in the water too. A huge Canadian Coastguard vessel went by shortly after I took this shot.
Located on the eastern side of the entrance to Halifax Harbour, McNabs Island has been used by natives, European fishermen and explorers, English settlers, and the military. Currently, the island is 3% privately owned (6 people are living on it) and the remainder is a 62/35 ownership split between the Province and the Feds.
Edit: Doesn't anyone else read tags? I've added "respirator" to the description.
I'm currently situated in Victoria, having previously lived in Beijing, Halifax, Chilliwack, Calgary, Vancouver and growing up in Northwestern Ontario. My aim with photography is...
Hi Janna, Hows it going? We do the clean the beach thing and what we get by far the most of is fishing net - the scourge of our dolphins. It's plastic so will be there for ever.
@mjalkotzy@pwallis@kidatheart@janmaki ~ Sorry, not as obvious as I thought. Must be all that veg growing on it. I tagged my photo with extra bits of info to not make the caption even more verbous. You guys don't read tags....? I wonder if anyone does besides me.
@radclyffehall Hi Sara! I'm good, hope your plant photo work is coming along. Surprisingly, we didn't pick up any fishing nets. Lots of rope, though, related to the fishing industry I imagine. And yes, many many plastic things.
I love your verbage. And I do read tags. Sometimes. Especially when I can't tell what the pic has in it. ;) The fluffy white clouds tag is a killer! Oh, and if this is related to tampons as @janmaki asked, then thankgoodness I'm a guy. Good for you for doing something great! Keep it up.
@mjalkotzy@kidatheart@pwallis@janmaki ~ Sorry again. Just noticed that I didn't even say it was a RESPIRATOR in my original response. And I also spelled verbose wrong. Strok!
