A visit today to Laggan to visit Canadian friends who run this coffee shop and village store. They came here with their 5 children and have sunk all their savings into renovating this store and making it into a wonderfully welcoming coffee shop and a hub of the wee local community.
And now their visa renewal has been denied and they are going to be deported ... possibly with only 72 hours notice. Losing everything.
What a loss to the community. And, many feel, what an injustice.
I'm a retired Episcopal Church minister living in the Highlands of Scotland. I've no photography skills but want the challenge of seeing the world around...
Well I am flabbergasted! This is what is so wrong with this country, we make good people like these leave & let in very undesirable others, I will say no more but we need to look at our priorities in this country! A beautiful place it is too! Good luck to them wherever they end up!
@happypat It does seem unfair - and the family are understandably quite bruised. Forgot to add - this was Glenbogle Stores in the TV series Monarch of the Glen.
That's a lovely photo but so sad about the story. Hope something works out for the family very soon. I wonder if there is a petition that could be signed!
@sarah19 Questions have been asked of the PM in Parliament by our MP, Sallie, and there's been masses of local support - over 50 letters written to the Home Secretary. The family know Who holds their future in spite of the scary uncertainty of their situation.
