“Climate change is real, it is happening right now, it is the most urgent threat facing our entire species, and we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating. We need to support leaders around the world who do not speak for the big polluters or the big corporations, but who speak for all of humanity, for the indigenous people of the world, for the billions and billions of underprivileged people who will be most affected by this, for our children’s children, and for those people out there whose voices have been drowned out by the politics of greed. I thank you all of this for this amazing award tonight. Let us not take this planet for granted. I do not take tonight for granted. Thank you.” — Leonardo DiCaprio, best actor winner for The Revenant
His sentiment was clear but how much is being spent by those who can really make a difference? Maybe throw a few more coins down. Great capture and well depicted Joey :) Fav
Super creative shot Joey. The quote is really interesting. Our news here didn't give it in full. It only mentioned climate change and we heard the last two sentences - just like he suggested, other influences at work. I really despair st those scientists who say it's part of a natural cycle. They don't seem to care if they're wrong what the consequences might be. I have recently watched a couple of programmes on TV here about air pollution. In both , the expectation was that you'd get it in London, even with diminished traffic following the congestion charge. The scary thing was that it was found in high enough concentrations to be dangerous even in quiet villages! As an asthmatic I suffer from the effects of nitrous oxide and it's beginning to seem that nowhere is safe for me to walk in this 'green and pleasant land' I can't always blame big business, although diesel pollution is the problem when I look at the number of gas guzzlers ordinary folk drive. Our government taxed petrol and cars in such a way as to promote choices that were healthier -in many ways they fail! Sorry for the 'rant' I've just had a bad asthma attack! At least that's mt excuse!
This winter has shown us how the climate has changed. when I immigrated in 1955 we had 6 month of winter. now we had one very cold day and one huge snow storm, the rest was fairly warm compared to previous years. thanks for sharing this speech and I love your picture. fav.
