Apparently Vai, near the north-eastern tip of Crete, has the largest palm "forest" in Europe. It was certainly a surprise, in more ways than one, as I didn't know that Europe had any at all. We were lucky to have the beach to ourselves as it's very crowded in the summer. What a pity that the wind was too cold for swimming.
