St. Catherine's Oratory. This tall medieval octagonal tower is all that survives of an oratory built here in 1328 as penance by a local landowner, who had plundered church property – casks of white wine – from a ship wrecked nearby. Now also known as the Pepperpot, it was used as a lighthouse beacon before the current lighthouse was built at the foot of the hill.

I've just looked her up and St. Catherine of Siena was born in 1347, so I suppose it must be dedicated to St. Catherine of Alexandria. This assumes that it was called St. Catherine's Oratory from the day ot was built. Someone must know!
