These totora reed boats on Uros Islands, Lake Titicaca, are specifically for tourist trips. The reed boat photographed on the Bolivian side three days ago is more subtle! The little girl on ours was singing snatches of well known songs in all sorts of languages. There was something like a Disney theme park about the whole thing. However if tourists didn’t help to support the Uros Island families they’d be out begging on the streets of Puno. There’s no doubt in my mind as to which is the better way of life for them.
