The Moving Water Conundrum

1000 Mile Walk Day 46 on Drove Lane.
I can never decide about the shutter speed for moving water. Left is at 1/100s, middle at 1/800s & right at 1/2000s. I don't really think it made much difference, except the left image benefits from greater depth of field, although you can't really see this on here.
I always have the same dilemma with water shots!

I have the same problem. Have never taken the time to figure it out except for a few quick (failed) experiments like yours.

if you want to capture the actual water action, then a higher shutter speed is in order. but if you want the milky or silky image, a longer exposure should be it. nice collage. aces!

This shows the need to go for extremes of shutter speed to see any difference. I’m not a fan of those milky water shots and certainly don’t want to go walking with a tripod, but maybe I’ll give it a try one day.
