Makeover Not Demolition

Via the San Diego Union-Tribune:
"Downtown's venerable Hotel Churchill, which opened 100 years ago to cater to Panama-California Exposition goers, is getting a $17 million makeover to serve homeless veterans and the mentally ill."

Wonderful pov and composition; I especially like the contrasts here. I also like the fact that the building is being refurbished and not torn down, and will be used for such good causes. Fav for me.

Your photo shows the past and the present, and your description and link show the future. It's a great story!

@tristansmum @cejaanderson @originalintentionstudios I am glad to document the decay. When they finish refurbishing it it will look all spic & span....

Nice that they are salvaging the place.

@mcrt I'll probably photograph the finished results post-refurb, too!

You make decay look cool. Really love your processing here to bring out all the rich details and color.

I've known of this hotel, and how lovely that it's going to serve others long into the future. It's certainly iconic downtown San Diego!

@Weezilou They've already begun gutting the interior

Cool presentation. I like the very optimistic (?) mural… This is the back side of the building, right? Hope they freshen up the mural and don’t cover it up...

@bankmann From what I read in the article, they will eliminate the wall mural & "castle-type" accouterments, restoring its look to its original design.
I remember how cheesy the wall mural, then much less Sun washed, looked back in 1985 when I moved here. I am just glad to capture the decay prior to its renewal.
