Black Shuck by jrambo001

Black Shuck

On 4 August 1577, at Blythburgh, Black Shuck is said to have burst in through the church doors. He ran up the nave, past a large congregation, killing a man and boy and causing the church tower to collapse through the roof. As the dog departed, he left scorch marks on the north door that remain to this day. Two men were touched by the beast and fell down dead.

Very interesting to put together a story from an English tradition with art from the Chinese--it's made a very interesting image even more imaginative!

Hmmm... obviously not man's best friend in this instance. Was he a poodle by any chance I wonder? In Goethe's "Faust", Mephistopheles appears first in the form of a black poodle. I like the textures and lighting in your capture.

Gargoyles are my muses. I don't see nearly enough of them. Now this guy history gives him extra menace.

@miata2u @cejaanderson @tristansmum @deu49097 @satinscape I just thought it looked like a big scary dog. I Googled "Hellhound" & went from there....
